Ms Rita García Perán from Saxion, a SERENE Partner, attended the Saxion Research Conference held on May 20, 25, where she delivered a pitch highlighting the development of ‘Energy Indicator’ and its application within the SERENE project.

As part of the Circular Innovation and Energy Transition track, two working prototypes of the ‘Energy Indicator’ were presented during a roundtable discussion. Developed by researchers and students at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, the ‘Energy Indicator’ offers a novel way to guide energy usage based on real-time measurements and forecasts. Rather than relying on conventional metrics, it informs users visually when it is optimal—or not—to consume energy, aligning household behaviour with the availability of locally generated solar power.

Rita introduced the concept behind the indicator in the context of the SERENE project, engaging an audience of business-oriented researchers. She emphasized the solution’s potential to promote behavioural change by making energy consumption more intuitive and accessible, encouraging users to shift their habits in line with renewable energy availability.

The experts responded positively to the idea and offered suggestions for further development. They highlighted the potential for broader impact of such a solution, noting that not only individual inhabitants from sustainable communities could benefit from this, but also the energy distributors, who are interested in optimization of  the use of locally produced energy.
