The SERENE H2020 project concluded its realisation with a strong presence at the IEEE PES ISGT Europe 2025 Conference, held on 20–23 October 2025 in Malta. As one of Europe’s key events on innovative smart grid technologies, ISGT Europe provided an ideal platform to showcase SERENE’s final results, innovations, and practical insights for the future of local energy communities, grid flexibility, and sustainable energy transition.

Industry Engagement

SERENE also had a significant role in the conference’s industry-focused sessions. Prof. Birgitte Bak-Jensen, SERENE Project Coordinator, delivered an Industry Talk during the Opening Ceremony and took part in the Industry Session on Day 1, presenting SERENE’s approaches to advancing smart, flexible, and community-driven energy systems (Fig. 1 a,b)

These contributions highlighted SERENE’s methodologies, demonstrators, and real-world applications for boosting energy flexibility and resilience.

A Strong and Visible Presence

Throughout the entire event, SERENE was represented at a dedicated project stand (Fig. 7) featuring the Final Results Video, a project roll-up, leaflet, and additional communication materials. These resources offered attendees direct access to SERENE’s outputs, tools, and findings.

Community Interaction and Networking

The SERENE stand became a lively meeting point, welcoming visitors from across the European energy community—including Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary. The SERENE team (Fig. 8) engaged in fruitful discussions, shared project updates, and fostered new collaborations. Their enthusiasm and expertise contributed to a vibrant exchange of ideas throughout the event.
